Wie bei allen asiatischen Fahrradteileherstellern, wurden auch die Fabriken der DDK GROUP durch die weltweit sehr große Nachfrage regelrecht “überrannt”. Die vorhandene DDK “VN1-Fabrik” in Thủ Dầu Một, Vietnam (s. Skizze unten), hat eine jährliche Produktionskapazität von ca. 10 Millionen Sätteln. Derzeit möchten Stammkunden jedoch ca. 15 Millionen Stück jährlich abnehmen. Die anderen Fabriken von DDK in Nantong, China, und Changhwa, Taiwan, sind ähnlich überlastet. (English version below)
Neben derzeit fehlenden Produktionskapazitäten wird die Situation durch das Fehlen von Fachkräften zusätzlich erschwert. Qualitativ hochwertige Sättel von Hand zu konfektionieren ist eine schwierige handwerkliche Aufgabe. Obwohl DDK bereits weitere 400 Mitarbeiter für ihre “VN1-Fabrik” eingestellt hat, wird es noch einige Monate dauern, bis diese entsprechend eingearbeitet sein werden.
DDK wird die Gesamtproduktionskapazität mit zwei neuen Fabriken deutlich ausbauen.
Hierzu hat DDK seine früher verkaufte, alte Fabrik in der Provinz Bình Dương, Vietnam, nördlich von Ho-Chi-Minh-City, zurückgekauft. Obwohl die Gesamtproduktionskapazität dieser Fabrik nur
3.000.000 Sättel pro Jahr beträgt, hat sie den Vorteil, dass viele lokale Arbeiter dort zuvor gearbeitet haben und bereits über die handwerklichen Fähigkeiten verfügen, Sättel in der
erforderlichen Qualität zu fertigen. Aus diesem Grund kann DDK bereits ab August 2021 Sättel aus dieser Produktionsstätte liefern. Dadurch wird die DDK “VN1-Fabrik” schon zeitnah entlastet.
Ferner baut DDK eine komplett neue Fabrik, DDK “VN2”, im Minh Hung Industrial Park mit einer Größe von 82.549 qm und einer Gesamtkapazität von bis
zu 15 Millionen Sätteln pro Jahr. Diese neue Fabrik, die der DDK “VN1-Fabrik” nachempfunden ist, wird eine anfängliche Produktionskapazität von 6 Millionen Sätteln haben und im August 2022 mit
der Produktion starten. Auf Volllast wird gegen Ende 2022 auch an diesem Standort gefertigt werden können.
Mit diesen Investitionen möchte DDK die Lieferzeiten deutlich reduzieren und seinen Kunden für die kommenden Jahre entsprechende Planungssicherheit bieten.

As with all Asian bicycle parts manufacturers, DDK GROUP’s factories have been overwhelmed with new production demand. Their existing DDK VN1 factory in Thủ Dầu Một, has a production capacity of 10 million saddles annually. It is currently holding 15 million pieces in their production portfolio. DDK’s other factories in Nantong, China, and Changhwa, Taiwan are similarly over-burdened.
In addition to new demand, the situation is further complicated by the need for skilled workers. Hand-covering saddles is difficult artisanal task that’s not easily scalable. Although DDK has
already hired an additional 400 local workers for their VN1 factory, it will be another several months before these workers are up to speed. Even then, these additional workers will not be
sufficient to meet demand.
Accordingly, DDK is increasing total production capacity with the addition of two new factories.
First, DDK has re-purchased their original factory in Bình Dương Province, Vietnam, just north of Ho Chi Minh City. While the total production capacity of this factory is only 3,000,000 pieces
annually, it has the advantage of having many local workers who previously worked there and who already have the artisanal skills to hand-cover saddles. Because of this, DDK will be able to begin
delivering saddles from this DDK old factory in August 2021. This will relieve some of the pressure on the DDK VN1 factory.
Second, DDK is building a completely new factory, DDK VN2, in the Minh Hung Industrial Park with size of 82,549 m2 and capacity plan of 15 million saddles. This new factory, modeled on the DDK VN1 factory, will have an initial production capacity of 6 million saddles and will come on-line in August 2022. While DDK will continue to struggle to meet near-term demand, the situation will abate somewhat in the coming months, and be fully resolved by the end of 2022.
